Week 1 of HOW I FOUND THE STRONG We have already read through the first two chapters of the book and are very engaged and interested. Please share with your kids any connections you may have with the Civil War that they can use to connect to the text.
We I have posted the vocabulary for the unit and the students have a sheet with this week's words and their assignment. This, along with an Achieve boost article will be due on Friday. Many students are having trouble losing their work. if you would not mind, please send at least one folder with your child. We would gladly accept donations of more than one for students who cannot bring one. This will help keep them organized. It does not have to be anything special. http://www.howifoundthestrong.com/aboutthebook.html Happy Thursday!!!

Students will create a free account on Storyboardthat.com. Students: Please make sure that you save your board every time you are on it! We start on poetry, soon. If you have time, share some of your favorite poems with each other! Don't forget that we start Secret Santa NEXT week! Thank you to the parents who are being so generous and donating to the kids who cannot afford gifts As a celebration of an amazing first semester where the students have shown some tremendous growth, we are having a Secret Santa in our class. The kids have already drawn names and understand that this is not about spending money, but giving and becoming a closer group. I said they have a cap of 5 dollars and will also be creating activities that go along with the unit we are focused on these next couple of weeks where they can make something for the person that they drew. I also let the students know that if they cannot bring gifts, to see me, and we will take care of it. Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns. They will bring in gifts the week before Winter Break.
With your foldable, choose any of the words from this list and color the side it works with, putting the connotative definition under the tab.
